Children's Ministry Director

PURPOSE:
To partner with the congregation and families as director of a Children’s Ministry program that brings children to Christ and helps them grow in their faith, in their love for God, and in their service to others.


DUTIES:
Weekly

  • Ready the Sunday School classrooms for teachers.
  • Refresh busy bags for worship services.
  • Remind volunteers and prepare lessons for Children’s Church.
  • Wednesday night programs: Ready the classes for recreation, lesson, and craft time. Help as needed with Kid’s Choir.
  • Check-in meeting with pastor (Senior or Associate) for planning, curriculum selection, and other Children’s Ministry-related matters.
  • Be present Sunday mornings as a resource and support for all Children’s Ministry activities.
  • Connect with new families with children.

Monthly or Occasionally

  • Attend staff meetings and report on ministry.
  • Be a member of Children-in-Ministry Committee; work with the chair on agenda for meetings; attend the meetings and update the committee on programs.
  • Fill in as necessary in Children’s Church and Sunday School.

Quarterly

  • Order curriculum for Sunday School.
  • Create the volunteer list for Children’s Church.
  • Email and recruit volunteers for Sunday School and Wednesday night programs, with help from the Children-in-Ministry committee.

Yearly

  • These are a list of programs offered: Children’s Sunday, Easter Egg Hunt, Third Grade Bibles, End-of-School party, Children’s Summer Camps, Vacation Bible School, VBS Pool Party, Back-to-School Bash, Fall Carnival, Christmas Program.
  • Additional: Complete the background checks for volunteers and staff.


SKILLS/TRAINING:

  • A strong Christian faith and a calling to work with children.
  • A degree in ministry and/or child development-related field is preferred.
  • Good people skills for recruiting, training, and working with volunteers and parents.
  • Excellent administrative skills. This job requires a self starter who is highly motivated.
  • Awareness of the different learning styles of children.
  • Attend Children’s Workers Academy training offered by the Oklahoma Conference of UMC. (Paid for by the church)


WHO WE ARE SEEKING…

  • A person to build a team, which requires the recruitment, development, and support for volunteers to strengthen the ministry.
  • A person to build and maintain relationships with the children and parents, both inside and outside of the church, through events, outreach, small groups, etc. (Example: go see the kids at lunch at school to build relationships and network.)
  • A person to manage the Children's Ministry budget.
  • A person who can excite, lead and inspire others to follow them.
  • A person who exemplifies God’s love through fun.
  • A person to initiate, plan and encourage participation in all church events & activities.
  • An active team member of the church staff.
  • A person who will actively pray and search for ways to grow this ministry and it's events and outreach.


HOURS/SALARY

  • 30-35 hours per week.
  • Starting salary based on experience and credentials.
  • Time off is subject to guidelines in the Staff Handbook.
  • Position is subject to withholding.
