Elk City UMC's Youth Ministry is for students in grades 7-12.
We seek to guide our older kids in growing their relationship with Christ...to urge ownership of and commitment to their faith...and we do this through biblical instruction, emphasizing the importance of Scripture and prayer in their walk with God, and relationship building with each other and mentors within the congregation who have wisdom and experience to impart. We value leadership, service and character... and our youth mission is based on 1 Corinthians 10:31...that whatever we do, we do it for the glory of God. Our youth motto is "Work Hard. Play Hard. Pray Hard."
Youth meet year-round on Wednesday nights and Sunday mornings.
Wednesdays:
6 to 7:30 p.m. Youth begins each week in the Youth Center for fellowship and worship together, then breaks off into junior (7-9) and senior (10-12) high Bible studies.
Sundays:
10 to 10:45 a.m. Youth meets in the Youth Center during the Sunday School hour.
Small Group:
Senior High Girls Small Group meets from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday nights during the school year. The format includes a combination of Bible and topic studies, service projects and fun outings.
Summers:
Wednesday Nights: 6 to 7:30 p.m. for dinner, devotions and fun activities.
Mission Trip: Each summer in mid July, our youth and adult leaders take a week-long, out-of-state Mission Trip with the focus of loving God's people through service, compassion and giving.
Camps: Several summer camps at Canyon Camp are available for our youth. To learn more, visit okcamps.org.
Other Ministries:
Rags Truck: The Youth Rags Truck Ministry was formed at the UMC Thrift Shop in order to move donations to areas of need. Our youth group leads this section of the ministry, clearing the donation warehouse by loading poundage bags onto a semi-truck contracted with a company that distributes donations nationally and internationally. Every other month, the youth load, on average, approximately 40,000 lbs. of clothing donations that will either be distributed for wear or recycled into rags, hence the name “Rags Truck” Ministry. That is approximately 240,000 lbs. of materials being re-purposed instead of ending up in the local landfill. Youth who participate at each Rags Truck earn $25 credit toward the next Mission Trip.
